Udghosh 2021, the 17th edition of India’s largest sports fest is here with a bang on 1-3 April, 2022. Being an institution for one of the brightest minds of the country, IIT Kanpur has achieved exemplary heights in academics and research but the institute also never forgets the importance of cultural and sports activities in students’ lives. Throwing light upon the sportsmanship among the students, IIT Kanpur organizes Udghosh as it’s annual sports fest with over 200 colleges from all over India showcasing their talent and the spirit of sportsmanship.
Udghosh is the annual sports festival of IIT Kanpur and is one of the largest intercollegiate sports festivals of India with a footfall of more than 20,000! Participants from all over the country gather for a marvelous display of passion, zeal, drama, and respect. Udghosh is an extravaganza and the Udghosh has had many fantastic editions and the 2017 and 2018 editions were testimony of the same.
Udghosh organizes 22 sports events each year with huge participation from over 200 colleges across the country. Team sports like Football, Cricket, Basketball and Volleyball are have been the greatest attractions in Udghosh, for both the successful editions. On the other hand, people in individual sports like Athletics, Squash and Table Tennis have shown-off tremendous skills and potential in their own forte. Adding to these, Udghosh also conducts informal events for the campus junta. In 2017, Udghosh organised Sumo wrestling, Human Foosball, Zorb Football, Paintball alongside the Udghosh Marathon. 2018 witnessed performances from Freestyle Footballers Pawel Skora and Dawid Krzyzowski and The Mallakhamb Artists India team. Udghosh also contributed towards the social good with in initiatives like blood donation, don’t drink and drive, plant a tree and child education. Initiatives like NOSSQ and UYC are also directed towards contributing to the society.
Udghosh is frequented by famous celebrities from sports and other field as they are for talks and felicitations. Gaurav Taneja, Priyanka Chaudhary Raina and Abhinav Bindra graced Udghosh’17 with their presence whereas the 2018 edition witnessed IAS Ira Singhal, Youtubers Viraj Ghelani and Aniruddha Banerjee among the major guests.
The Pronites offer an eclectic mix of ways to unwind from the stress and immerse in the love for music. Udghosh’17 was driven into a trance by opening acts from SWITCHERS X CARNIVORE and Club Banditz. The 2018 edition had performances from renowned band Indian Ocean, musicians Amit Mishra and Rahul Ram, setting the mood for the fest better than ever. Moreover, Udghosh organises Comedy Nite giving the audience new premises and revelling punchlines to take home. The Comedy Nites have hosted celebrated Stand-up artists like Rahul Subramaniam and Nitin Gupta in 2017, whereas in 2018, Akash Gupta and Nishant Tanwar were making everyone roll on the floor laughing.
The rich history of Udghosh speaks volumes about its grandiose. The Pandemic has hit us hard, but the team toiled endlessly and left no stone unturned and now we are just a few days away from a grand celebration of the beloved extravaganza. Just like a Phoenix rises from the dying flames, Udghosh is once again ready to rise up. From April 1st to 3rd, with the theme of revival “THE PHOENIX’s DESITERATUM” Udghosh is ready to set your heart ablaze once again.
